Moving Company Alkmaar
Two cities share one name here. Inside the canal ring, houses on the Verdronkenoord and the Laat have narrow staircases, gabled fronts and a hoisting beam that tells you how furniture was always meant to get in. Ten minutes north in Huiswaard you park at the door and finish before lunch. Our movers work in both every week — from €19 per hour, with the parking exemption arranged and a price agreed before anything is lifted.
Moving within Alkmaar, or to and from Amsterdam
Roughly half our work in this city is local — a studio in the centre to a family house in De Hoef, or downsizing from Oudorp to an apartment near the station. The other half runs down the A9 and the N242: Alkmaar to Amsterdam for work, Amsterdam to Alkmaar for space. Either direction is one planned day with a single truck, not a shuttle across two. We also move regularly to and from Heiloo, Bergen, Egmond, Castricum, Dijk en Waard (Heerhugowaard), Schagen and Uitgeest, and handle long-distance moves to the rest of the country and abroad.
What a move in Alkmaar costs
We bill by the hour, so the honest answer to “what will it cost” is: it depends on how much you own and how easily we can reach the front door. Typical jobs:
| Home | Usual time | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Room or studio | 2–3 hours | Volume; stairs if in the centre |
| One-bedroom apartment | 3–4 hours | Lift or no lift, carrying distance |
| Family house (Huiswaard, De Hoef) | Most of a day | Shed, loft, garden items |
| Canal-house household, centre | A full day | Staircase width, lift time, loading space |
No call-out fees, no weekend surcharge dressed up as “flexibility”, and no hidden extras: the quote you receive is what lands on your invoice. Your belongings are insured up to €200,000 per claim in transit. For an exact figure, ask for a free home visit — a planner walks the house with you, counts what actually travels, and prices it with no obligation. Our guide to average moving costs explains the rest.
Parking, access and getting the truck to your door
In Alkmaar this is half the job. The centre is paid parking throughout, and the quays around the Verdronkenoord and Bierkade are narrow, one-way and short on loading space. We apply for the municipal parking exemption and a reserved loading bay on your behalf — best requested a couple of weeks ahead — and we pick the vehicle to suit the street rather than the load: a compact van on the Bierkade, the 48 m³ truck in the newer districts. On Friday mornings from spring to early autumn, streets around the Waagplein close for the cheese market and fill with visitors; if you’re moving nearby we either load early or move you another day, and we say so when you book rather than on the morning itself.
Narrow staircases, upper floors and the moving lift
The staircases in the old centre turn halfway up, and that turn is where wardrobes, three-seaters and box springs stop. Rather than force them — which is how doorframes and furniture get damaged — we set up a moving lift at the façade and bring everything in through the window: the same route the hoisting beam above your door was built for. It’s usually faster and cheaper than an afternoon of stair work, and it’s equally the answer for portico flats in Overdie or De Mare where there’s no lift, and for upper-floor apartments where the building lift won’t take a sofa.
Neighbourhood by neighbourhood
Binnenstad — Verdronkenoord, Bierkade, Mient, Laat
Historic and listed buildings, cobbles, one-way quays, limited loading space. Exemption arranged in advance, compact van, floor and doorframe protection as standard, lift where the stairs say no.
Huiswaard, Daalmeer, De Mare
Post-war and 1970s–90s housing: parking at the door, wide stairwells, short carrying distances. The cheapest kind of move we do, because nothing slows the crew down.
Overdie & Kooimeer
Portico flats and apartment blocks, some without a lift. We check the building lift dimensions before the day; if a couch won’t fit, the moving lift comes along.
Oudorp, Bergermeer & De Hoef
Family houses with driveways, sheds and lofts. The house is rarely the surprise — the garage and the attic are. Worth deciding what travels before moving day.

Who turns up, and what they bring
The crew
Trained, experienced movers — not day hires — working in Dutch and English, used to the problems old houses produce and able to solve them on the spot.
The materials
Moving blankets, stretch foil, mattress covers, wardrobe boxes, floor and doorframe protection in both homes, and every load strapped before we drive.
The fleet
18, 24 and 48 m³ trucks plus compact vans, matched to your volume and the width of your street.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a moving company in Alkmaar cost?
Movers from €19 per hour and vans from €39, billed by the hour. A studio is typically 2–3 hours, a one-bedroom apartment 3–4, a family house most of a day. A free quote or home visit turns that into an exact number.
Do I need a parking permit for the moving truck?
In the centre and all paid-parking zones, yes — and for a moving lift you want a reserved loading space as well. We apply for the municipal exemption for you; allow about two weeks where you can.
My staircase is too narrow for the wardrobe. What happens?
It goes through the window on the moving lift, which is faster, safer and usually cheaper than wrestling it up a turning staircase. It’s why so many houses here still have a hoisting beam.
Can you move at the weekend or at short notice?
Yes to both. Weekends are normal for us, not a surcharge opportunity, and short-notice moves are often possible — call and we’ll look at the schedule honestly.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to three weeks gives the best choice of dates. End-of-month Fridays go first, since most Dutch rental and purchase contracts change hands then.
Do you move between Alkmaar and Amsterdam?
Constantly, in both directions, and it’s a single-day job for a normal household.
Can I pack myself to keep the price down?
Yes. Pack the boxes and carry the light ones; leave the furniture, appliances and lift work to us. Our moving day checklist keeps it organised.
Do your movers speak English?
Yes — quote, planning, moving day and invoice can all run in English.
