Moving Company Hoorn
Houses on the Grote Oost and the Veermanskade are tall, narrow and monumental, with staircases about the width of a wardrobe door — which is exactly why so many of these façades still carry a hoisting beam. Fifteen minutes away in Kersenboogerd you park at the door and finish by lunchtime. We move in both versions of this city every week, from €19 per hour, with the quay parking arranged in advance.
Moving within Hoorn, or between Hoorn and Amsterdam
Much of our work here is local: a flat in the Grote Waal to a family house in Zwaag, or a canal house in the centre to something with a garden in Bangert-Oosterpolder. The rest runs along the A7 and the train line — people arriving from Amsterdam for space, or leaving for work. Either direction is a planned single day with one truck sized to the household, not two half-loads. We also move regularly in Enkhuizen, Medemblik, Edam-Volendam, Purmerend, Wognum and Dijk en Waard, at the same hourly rates.
What a move in Hoorn costs
| Home | Usual time | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Room or studio | 2–3 hours | Volume, stairs |
| Apartment, Grote Waal or Risdam | 3–4 hours | Lift or no lift, carrying distance |
| Family house, Kersenboogerd or Zwaag | Most of a day | Shed, loft, garden items |
| Canal house in the centre | A full day | Staircase width, lift time, quay access |
In the historic centre, budget for lift hours rather than extra carrying hours — it’s almost always the cheaper of the two, and considerably safer for the furniture. No call-out fees, no weekend surcharge, and contents insured up to €200,000 per claim. A free home visit gives you a fixed price before anything is booked.
Quays, permits and getting the truck close
The old harbour quarter is narrow, cobbled and largely one-way, with paid parking and very little room to stand a truck. We apply for the municipal parking exemption and a reserved loading space on the quay, plan the route so the van isn’t stuck behind a delivery lorry on the Grote Oost, and bring a compact vehicle where a 48 m³ truck would simply block the street. Many buildings here are listed: façades can’t be leaned against, floors and doorframes get covered as standard, and the moving lift is set with proper protection at the contact points.
Narrow staircases and the hoisting beam principle
The staircases in these houses were built for people, not for three-seaters. Forcing a sofa up a seventeenth-century stairwell is how walls, banisters and furniture get damaged — so we do what the builders intended and go through the window with a moving lift, the modern version of the beam above your door. The same applies to upper-floor apartments without a lift in Risdam and the Grote Waal, and to anything heavy: pianos, safes, American fridges.
Neighbourhood by neighbourhood
Binnenstad — Roode Steen, Grote Oost, Veermanskade
Monumental houses, narrow quays, cobbles, restricted parking. Exemption and loading space arranged, compact van, lift for anything wider than the stairs.
Kersenboogerd, Risdam & Grote Waal
1970s–90s districts: parking at the door, wide stairwells, straightforward loading. This is where a move gets genuinely cheap, because nothing slows the crew down.
Blokker, Zwaag & Bangert-Oosterpolder
Village streets and new-build family homes — easy access, big trucks welcome, one trip instead of three.
Upper-floor flats without a lift
Common across the post-war blocks. We check the building lift dimensions in advance; when a couch won’t fit, the moving lift comes with us.

Crews and equipment
The people
Experienced movers working in Dutch and English who know what a seventeenth-century staircase does to a box spring — and what to do instead.
The materials
Blankets and stretch foil, mattress covers, floor and doorframe protection at both addresses, everything strapped down in the truck.
The fleet
18, 24 and 48 m³ trucks and compact vans — in the old centre we deliberately bring the small one.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a moving company in Hoorn cost?
From €19 per hour per mover and €39 for a van. A studio takes 2–3 hours, an apartment 3–4, a canal-house household a full day. Request a quote or a free home visit for the exact figure.
Will my sofa fit up a seventeenth-century staircase?
Often not — and forcing it is how walls and furniture get damaged. We set up the moving lift and bring it in through the window instead, which is faster and safer.
Do I need a parking permit in the centre?
Yes, and on the quays you’ll want a reserved loading space as well. We apply for both with the municipality.
How long does a move from Hoorn to Amsterdam take?
One day, start to finish, for a normal household — including loading, driving and unloading.
Can I keep costs down by helping?
Certainly. Pack yourself and carry the light boxes while the crew handles furniture, appliances and lift work. Our checklist keeps it organised.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks. End-of-month Fridays fill up first, since that’s when most contracts change hands.
Do you move at weekends or at short notice?
Both — weekends without a surcharge, and short notice depending on the schedule. Call and we’ll tell you honestly.
Do you speak English?
Yes, the whole process if you prefer.
