Your Moving Day Guide

The Best Tips from Professional Moving Company

The big day is approaching: where to start?

In this article, we provide 9 tips to help you have a stress-free moving day. We have selected the best tips from our extensive experience in moving thousands of clients.

Let’s waste no more time and start with the first tip!

1. Give Yourself Enough Time on the Moving Day

Moving Day goes fast because there are so many things that need to be done. Keep that in mind and double the time you think you need to prepare when we arrive. Get up really early.

This means getting up extra early for breakfast, having your phone with you – charged.

If you have kids, it’s best to have them with a babysitter or at school during the move. If you have pets, it’s best to leave them with someone for the day until the move is done.
Doors will open frequently, furniture will be moved around – it’s hectic.

Make sure the new tenant or owner has your new address by leaving a note.

If you plan to leave a tip for your moving team, or if you want to offer pastries or soft drinks for the moving team, make sure you buy them and go to the ATM before the movers arrive.

2. Pack All Your Final Items

There are always items you need at the last moment and that aren’t packed – toiletries, cell phone chargers, bedding, and towels. You will need these items on the first night in your new home, so make sure you have a few extra boxes and a marker, or a suitcase.

With our moving supplies delivery service, you are assured of plenty of high-quality moving materials.

Keep these boxes or a suitcase separate from the main boxes on moving day. It’s best to keep them with you if you have a car and will drive to your new location by yourself. If you don’t have your own car, you can put them in the truck somewhere separate: in the front, or put them in as the last boxes.

Make sure you unload them and keep them separately. A suitcase is recognizable and easy.

3. Things to Keep Ready

  • Note pad and a pen ready to note any details you come across during the day
  • Extra boxes or a suitcase, to put in the last items such as bedding and toiletries
  • More extra boxes, just in case
  • Bin bags, for the final rubbish when you do your final clean-up
  • Broom, mop, bucket, cloths, detergent, and spray for the cleanup

4. Do a Final Clean

Check the kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms before the truck arrives. Check cupboards, fridge, and cabinets to see if everything is empty.

Then sweep the house and go over the main surfaces with a cloth. It depends on the kind of house and condition you want or have to leave it in, and how thorough the cleaning should be.

If you want or need to do a thorough clean before you leave, then calculate that time and discuss it with your movers. Make sure you have a broom, mop, cloth, spray, detergent, and bucket. Don’t forget to bring these to your new home because you might have to clean a few things before you unpack.

5. Meet the Movers of Professional Moving Company

We recommend you stay on the property: you know your way around and the specifics of your place. It saves time if we have questions that we can ask directly to you on site.

We go through the plan once more before we get to work. You will receive the inventory list, and after signing, we will start the move.

At the end of the move, before it’s finished, you might want to call anyone who might be waiting at the new location and inform them that you’ll arrive soon.

Double-check if you have the keys to your new location and make sure you have the phone number of the movers in your phone, in case there are issues on the way.

6. Secure Your Old Home

Be sure to lock all your windows and doors before you leave. If necessary, do another quick sweep.

If you arranged with the new owner or landlord that you would leave the keys, now is the moment to leave them there.

Last but not least: take photographs of the condition of each room before you leave. This is to avoid any misunderstanding about the state you left your house in.

7. Meet the Truck at the New Location

Once you’ve met the movers at your new location, you help them enter. They will discuss with you where to leave the items, boxes, and furniture while they unload.

If you are renting, take photographs of all the spaces and document issues so you can relay this to your landlord.

8. Make Sure Your Utilities Are Working

Check if there’s water (hot and cold), electricity, gas, and wifi. If there are issues, you have time to make a call.

While you are at it, check if the property is secure for the arrival of young children or pets: check gates, fences, doors, stairs, and windows.

9. End the Move and Set up the New Location

When the movers are done with their work, they will do a final walk-through with you. If there’s furniture that needs to be moved around, then this is the right moment to do it.

If all is well, you can sign the final papers. If you are happy about the move, you can tip the movers.

You might want to give the place a quick clean. You have your suitcase with the essentials to get you through the first night.

After that, in the following days, you will be unpacking, or we will do that for you if you ordered our packing/unpacking service.
